Our Mission

To recognize the incredible talent within the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis communities by facilitating and coordinating a fan-driven awards program, utilizing a core team consisting of a very diverse group of fans representing the fandom at large, to gather input from the fandom and to manage the awards' processes.
Let's break down each part of our mission statement to explain exactly how we are accomplishing it.

To recognize the incredible talent within the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis communities...

With your input, we have shaped an annual awards process for the Stargate fandom, just like the "Oscars" but without the speeches and parties. Our priority is to offer a fair chance to all the talented writers and fan artists out there. To meet that goal, the awards categories are intentionally set as broad as possible. Sub-categories, where appropriate, are more specific, so the smaller areas of the fandom can participate alongside the most popular characters and pairings and still have a fair chance.

...by facilitating and coordinating a fan-driven awards program...
This is a fan-driven awards program. We're here for you and because of you. Ultimately, the success of this venture depends on your support! All nominations and awards are decided by you, the fans. If you want your corner of the fandom to be better represented, make sure to nominate as much and as often as possible! The team's role is to facilitate and coordinate the awards processes. We manage a web site where fans can enjoy viewing nominated works and winners, both past and present. We also collect nominations, contact the nominated authors and artists, coordinate placement of the nominations within the categories defined by fandom preferences, and tally votes. All nominations meeting the minimal criteria for entry into the awards will be accepted. The team does not cull any entries except for works that are clearly defined as ineligible or for non-participating authors and artists. The Stargate Fan Awards team members do not vote in the awards. All winners are chosen by you!

...utilizing a core team consisting of a very diverse group of fans representing the fandom at large...
Each year we strive to ensure that our team members adequately represent the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis fans. Together, we belong to over 100 various lists, discussion groups, and livejournals. Each of us are responsible for communicating with our interest groups regularly so we can better understand and reflect the interests of the Stargate community at large in the awards' activities. For a specific breakdown of each team member's interest, please check out their individual Stargate Passions in our team members biographies. You can contact an individual team member that shares your particular interests if you have any questions or suggestions regarding the awards' process.

...to gather input from the fandom and to manage the awards' processes.
The Stargate Fan Awards have changed a little bit every year since our inception. These changes are in response to input gathered from the fans via surveys and direct discussions with you. We plan to include more timely surveys and on-line polls this year to help us adjust to your needs.

    These are your awards!
Please help us to make this year the best ever!
